Caring for Travertine & Limestone Floors

May 2026 · By Michaels Carpet Care

Travertine and limestone are porous, acid-sensitive natural stones. The vinegar-based and citrus cleaners marketed as all-purpose will etch and dull them permanently, damage that can only be undone by professional refinishing.

We use pH-balanced, stone-safe methods to deep clean, polish, and seal these floors. Penetrating sealers last 1–3 years on travertine and 1–2 years on limestone, with high-traffic areas often needing annual resealing.

If your stone floors have lost their luster or picked up etch marks and stains, full restoration, including honing, polishing, and refinishing, can bring them back. When in doubt, don't experiment with a cleaner; ask a specialist first.
